RETOO OR1099 steam iron, 2600 W

A powerful everyday steam iron. 2600 watts heat the ceramic-coated soleplate quickly and hold the temperature while you work through a basket of laundry. The coating is slicker than bare metal and gentler on synthetics, and the narrow tip reaches between buttons and along collar seams.

Steam output is set with a knob on the handle, from full steam down to dry ironing. A steam burst button releases a stronger surge for creases that ordinary steam leaves behind, and the spray dampens dry cotton and linen at any temperature. When limescale starts to build up, the self-clean function flushes the chamber out through the soleplate.

How to use it

• Filling. Unplug the iron, set the steam knob to 0, open the filling cover and fill to the MAX mark. Ordinary tap water is fine, but do not use water additives, scented or laundry water — they stain fabrics and damage the iron. Do not fill above the MAX mark, and pour the water out after use.
• Dry ironing. Stand the iron on its heel, plug it in, set the temperature and leave the steam knob at 0. Wait until the indicator light goes out.
• Steam ironing. Set the temperature into the steam range. Steam ironing works only at the higher temperature settings marked MAX — at lower settings water will run out of the soleplate. Wait for the indicator light to go out, then set the steam knob to suit the fabric.
• Steam burst. Press the burst button for a stronger surge; several presses may be needed to prime it. Do not use more than three successive bursts after the indicator light goes out.
• Spray. Check the care label first — some fabrics stain from moisture. The spray works with both steam and dry ironing.
• After each use. Switch off, unplug and empty the water immediately — never store the iron with water in the tank. Let it cool, always rest it on its heel, and store it upright.

Self-clean and care

Run the self-clean about once a month, more often if you iron a lot or your water is hard. Fill the tank half full, stand the iron on its heel, set the temperature to MAX, plug it in and wait for the indicator light to go out the first time. Unplug the iron, hold it horizontally over a sink and press the self-clean button — boiling water and steam will come out of the soleplate holes, so keep your hands clear. Rock the iron back and forth until the tank is almost empty, then set the steam knob to 0, plug the iron in again and heat it to MAX so the remaining water evaporates; iron over an old cloth while it does.

Wipe the housing with a damp cloth and a mild detergent — never use harsh cleaners. Starch and residue come off the soleplate with a damp cloth; never use a metal scouring pad and never rest the iron on a rough surface. Melted synthetic residue is best removed by heating the iron and ironing over an old cotton rag. Never put steam-iron cleaning fluids into the iron — they damage its internal parts.

Important — safety

• Burns can be caused by hot metal parts, hot water and steam, and hot water may leak from the iron. Take care when filling the iron or turning it over.
• Never iron or steam clothes while they are being worn, and do not direct steam at the body.
• Never put the iron, cord or plug in water.
• Always switch the iron off before plugging it in or unplugging it, and pull the plug — never the cord. Unplug it when filling or emptying the tank and whenever it is not in use.
• Do not let the cord touch hot surfaces. Let the iron cool completely before storing.
• Do not use the iron with a damaged cord, or after it has been dropped or damaged — take it to an authorised service centre for repair.
• Close supervision is required when the iron is used by or near children. Never leave it unattended while plugged in, including on an ironing board.
• Use and rest the iron on a stable surface; make sure the surface under the stand is stable too.
